The Federal Medical Centre Ilorin was designed to raise the standard of public healthcare infrastructure in north-central Nigeria. The complex is organised as a series of linked pavilions — inpatient, outpatient, surgical, and diagnostic — arranged around interior landscape courts that provide restorative daylit environments throughout the building. The design prioritises natural ventilation, durable materials, and modular bay widths that allow future expansion without compromising the quality or operational continuity of existing clinical areas.
Key Features
450-bed inpatient capacity across four structurally independent but connected pavilions
Interior landscape courts at each pavilion providing patient-facing restorative garden spaces
Naturally ventilated general ward wings significantly reducing mechanical cooling energy demand
Modular structural bay system enabling future phase expansion without service disruption
Six state-of-the-art operating theatres and a dedicated 40-bed intensive care wing
